The Jefferson County Tennessee Isaiah 117 House posted on Facebook: “Thank you Strawberry Plains Senior Citizen Center for these beautiful quilts. They will bring comfort to a child on a really hard today!”

They then added … “We truly have the best community! Thank you for pouring into this ministry!”

This ministry is very close to where I live as it is in the same county as me. A lot of people in my church are very active in this ministry. Not to mention, they have locations surrounding and beyond.

About Isaiah 117

Isaiah 117 House provides physical and emotional support in a safe and loving home for children awaiting placement.

Isaiah 117 House is a non-profit organization that provides temporary homes for children who are in the process of being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. The organization was founded in 2016 by Ronda Paulson, a former Department of Children’s Services (DCS) case manager, in response to the overwhelming need for a safe and secure place for these children to go during this traumatic time.

The name “Isaiah 117 House” comes from a passage in the Bible, specifically Isaiah 1:17, which reads “Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed, defend the orphan, plead for the widow.” This verse serves as a reminder of the organization’s mission to serve and protect children in need.

The organization operates by partnering with local churches and volunteers who help to provide the necessary resources and support for the children and families who come through their doors. The houses themselves are renovated and furnished by volunteers and community members, making them feel like real homes rather than sterile environments like a hotel or hospital.

When a child is removed from their home by DCS, they are often taken to a holding facility or a government-run shelter. These places are often overcrowded, understaffed, and can be quite intimidating for children who are already in a vulnerable state. Isaiah 117 House offers a warm and welcoming alternative, where children can stay for a few days or even a few weeks while DCS works to find them a more permanent placement.

During their stay, the children are provided with clothing, food, and any necessary medical attention. They are also given the opportunity to participate in various activities and outings, such as going to the zoo or attending a baseball game. This helps to create a sense of normalcy and stability for the children during a time of great upheaval and uncertainty.

Isaiah 117 House is committed to ensuring that children in their care are treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. They work closely with DCS to ensure that the children’s needs are being met and that they are placed in safe and loving homes as quickly as possible.

In addition to providing temporary housing, Isaiah 117 House also seeks to raise awareness about the issue of child abuse and neglect in their community. They offer training and support to individuals and organizations who want to learn more about how to identify and report child abuse.

The organization has received widespread support and recognition for their work, including being named the 2018 Non-Profit of the Year by the Johnson City Chamber of Commerce. They have also been featured in numerous news articles and have been the subject of a documentary film.

In conclusion, Isaiah 117 House is a remarkable organization that provides a much-needed service to children who are going through a difficult and traumatic time. By offering a safe and loving environment, they are helping to ease the transition for these children and make a positive impact on their lives. Their work serves as a reminder that with compassion, dedication, and community support, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

The Purpose of Isaiah 117

When children are removed from their homes out of concern for their safety, they are usually brought to a child welfare services office to await placement. This wait can be a few hours to several days. These children often have nothing with them and are scared, lonely, hungry, and in dirty clothing.

Isaiah 117 provides a comforting home where these children instead can be brought to wait – a place that is safe with friendly and loving volunteers who provide clean clothes, smiles, toys, and snuggly blankets. This space allows children to receive the comfort and care they need while child welfare staff can do the necessary paperwork and identify a good placement.
