Pleat

A pleat is a type of fold that is created in fabric or other flexible materials by folding a section of the material over itself and then pressing or stitching it in place. #pleat

Pleat

Pleats are often used in clothing, particularly in skirts and pants, to add volume and texture to the fabric while still allowing it to drape gracefully.

Skirts are one the most common forms of a pleat.

There are several different types of pleats, including box pleats, knife pleats, and accordion pleats, among others. Box pleats are created by folding the fabric in opposite directions so that the folds face each other, while knife pleats are created by folding the fabric in the same direction so that the folds all face one direction. Accordion pleats, on the other hand, are created by folding the fabric back and forth in a zigzag pattern.

Pleats can be used for purely decorative purposes or for functional purposes.

In addition to clothing, pleats can also be used in other textile applications, such as curtains, drapes, and tablecloths, to add texture and visual interest to the material. Pleats can be created using a variety of techniques, including folding, gathering, and stitching, and can be made in a wide range of sizes and shapes to achieve different effects.
