The Front of my 1st Quilt
I did a nautical themed quilt! It has things from the ocean like sea life creatures, sail boats, ships, lighthouses, buoys, nautical maps, anchors and much more. My blocks are 8″ blocks. I have 9 across and 10 down. Right now it is 72″ x 80″ and it fits on my full bed.
A lot of these blocks of fabric, I bought from a lot of local fabric stores to me, at least within around 2 hours or less.
I also plan to share a blog post showing what each nautical block looks like. Another great reason to follow Steve Sews Stuff so you don’t miss that blog post!
The next steps will include adding quilt batting to it. A back solid color even maroon or blue color. Then I will also do a thin border around it too. (Not sure which one to do for the back or for the border.) But I am close to finishing my 1st quilt.
If you got a suggestion on which color to use, let me know!
Then I am not sure if I will have it professionally sewed on top or I will just use Brother Stitch and sew the final sewing. Which I might do! It is my first quilt, that way I can say I did it all the way myself. I wouldn’t sew anything fancy, maybe just going across side to side and top to bottom every 4 inches.
I have plans to do another block quilt and I plan to share that on here too. Stay tuned to this blog for that!

I cannot wait to finish this nautical quit and use it! I plan to share my progress with this quilt and all other sewing projects that I do. So now to finish working on this on my free time after work and on weekends.

Update: I just added another column of blocks since I found more nautical fabric. It fits good on our double bed. (It’s still not as big as a King size yet). I might try to make it close to a King size).
