The USS Tennessee Barn Quilt: A Tribute to History
Nestled in the heart of Huntsville, Tennessee, the World War II Remembrance Museum stands as a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served aboard the USS Tennessee (BB43). Among its many exhibits, the museum proudly displays the USS Tennessee Barn Quilt, a vibrant piece of folk art.
The USS Tennessee, commissioned in 1920, was a witness and participant in some of the most pivotal moments of World War II. Damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, the battleship was quickly repaired and returned to service, participating in at least thirteen major campaigns throughout the war. Her resilience and strength became a symbol of American fortitude.
In Scott County, the barn quilt tradition is part of a larger initiative known as the Buffalo Gals Barn Quilt Trail. This trail takes visitors through scenic routes where they can admire a variety of barn quilts that showcase a mix of traditional and contemporary patterns.
