Eye of a Needle
The eye of a needle refers to the small opening at the top of a needle through which thread is passed in order to sew fabric. Needles have been used for thousands of years for various purposes, such as stitching clothes, making shoes, or even performing medical procedures.
This metaphor means a very narrow opening. This metaphor was even used in the Bible! Also meaning hard to go through too!
The expression “the eye of a needle” is also used metaphorically to describe a very small space or opening. For example, the phrase “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven” is a biblical reference to the difficulty of wealthy individuals achieving spiritual enlightenment. See The Holy Bible (Luke 18:12), even The Talmud and The Qur’an (7:40).
Just think how hard it is to thread a needle. You need near sightedness to thread a needle, or reading glasses or a loupe.
The eye of a needle can vary in size, depending on the type of needle and the thickness of the thread being used. Some needles have very small eyes, which can make threading them difficult, particularly for those with poor eyesight or shaky hands.
Historically, needles were made from materials such as bone, ivory, or wood, but today most needles are made from metal, such as steel or nickel-plated brass. Needles are manufactured through a process of shaping, hardening, and polishing, with the eye of the needle being created by punching a hole through the top of the needle and smoothing the edges.
